Yasaman Farmanara

Born in Tehran and based in Los Angeles, Yasaman Farmanara is a painter and former textile and fashion designer whose work explores the emotional complexity of the human experience. After relocating to Los Angeles following high school, she studied fashion design and spent more than 30 years working in textile print and fashion-related fields before fully dedicating herself to painting.

Influenced by growing up within a culture where the female form was often treated with restraint and taboo, her work challenges those boundaries through emotionally driven figurative paintings. Her figures become vessels for strength, vulnerability, desire, tension, and intimacy—often expressing multiple emotional states within the same space.

Through gesture, posture, fragmentation, and atmosphere, she creates emotionally charged compositions where background and figure work together to reflect inner psychological states. Her work invites viewers to connect not only with the image itself, but with the emotions and contradictions that exist within all of us.
